Johnnie Mercer's pier dates back to the 1930s when it was built by Julian Morton and has stood the test of time through a variety of owners and a couple of hurricanes that almost destroyed it indefinately. It is the only all concrete, steel-reinforced pier in North Carolina and attracts many visitors and locals to Wrightsville Beach each year.
